A rural mixed or large animal practice holds a stock of vaccines, antibiotics and other products that must stay within a cold chain. It runs a surgery with theatre lights, anaesthetic monitoring and suction, an autoclave for sterilising instruments, a lab for blood tests and faecal egg counts, and often portable X-ray and ultrasound gear charged at the clinic. Farmers call in for products and advice at all hours during calving and lambing. An outage that warms a vaccine fridge can mean writing off stock and checking every product.
The UPS-mode inverter switches with no gap, so fridges, monitors and lab analysers do not reset. A 30 to 40 kWh LiFePO4 battery covers the first moments, and a fuel cell takes over the steady load from hydrogen stored at 30 bar or less. Hydrogen is made overnight on off-peak power when the clinic is quiet, and the store keeps for weeks.
How it works →
Fridges, surgery equipment, lab gear and lighting in a small rural clinic usually fit within 15 kW continuous. An autoclave can be a heavy draw, so the pilot would check whether it runs alongside everything else. Larger hospitals with full imaging suites and large animal theatres may need a larger or multi-unit setup. Round-trip efficiency is 30% or less, so this is about continuity, not lower bills. It does not replace any regulatory backup requirements you already have.
Yes. The switch-over is instant, so fridge loggers see no interruption. That gives you a clean record showing products stayed in range through the outage, and saves the job of checking and possibly discarding stock afterwards.
The UPS-mode inverter is designed to switch without a gap, so theatre lights and monitors keep running. Your clinic's own emergency procedures should still cover equipment failure of any kind.
Possibly, if it fits within 15 kW with everything else. In practice, clinics often defer sterilising until the grid returns. The pilot would log the autoclave to see whether it fits alongside other loads.
Pilot installs go to people on this list first. Rural homes, farms and remote sites especially. No spam, no payment.
