Seasonal worker accommodation might be a converted woolshed, a row of cabins or a purpose-built block with shared kitchens, bathrooms and a laundry. Workers cook their own meals after long shifts, need hot showers, and dry wet clothing overnight. In winter pruning, heating keeps cabins liveable. Employers have obligations to provide decent conditions, and an outage puts those under pressure. Many of these blocks sit at the far end of long rural lines that drop out in storms.
The UPS-mode inverter switches over instantly, so lights, fridges and Wi-Fi stay on and nobody is stumbling about in the dark. The fuel cell then supplies the steady load from hydrogen made on off-peak power and stored at 30 bar or less. With no engine, there is no generator noise outside the bedrooms. Keeping Wi-Fi up also lets workers call home during an outage, which matters a lot to people far from family.
How it works →
A small block of cabins with shared kitchen and laundry may fit within 15 kW continuous. A large complex with many kitchens, electric hot water and heaters in every room draws more at the evening peak and would likely need a larger or multi-unit setup sized in the pilot. Round-trip efficiency is 30% or less, so heating from hydrogen is costly. Your accommodation obligations stay the same regardless of how power is supplied.
Large electric hot water cylinders for many workers are a heavy load. One unit may not cover them alongside kitchens at peak. The pilot would look at the numbers, and gas or heat pump hot water may be a better partner.
Yes. The modem and router are tiny loads and the switch-over is instant. Workers can still message and call family through an outage, as long as the internet connection itself is still working.
It is designed to keep power on through outages, which helps conditions. Meeting your obligations as an employer and accommodation provider remains your responsibility, including any scheme rules that apply to the workers you house.
Pilot installs go to people on this list first. Rural homes, farms and remote sites especially. No spam, no payment.
