Home / Australia guides / Charging sources / Micro-hydro input assessment: Rental home
Australia planning guidance for a specific property and load boundary. Confirm who controls the electricity plan. H2OME remains in early development.
Micro-hydro output depends on the available flow, usable head and the complete installation. A stream on a property is not proof of a viable or permitted electricity supply. Commission a professional resource assessment and clarify water-use, environmental and local consent questions before assuming generation.
Use the lower dependable input relevant to the intended period, not just a favourable flow observation. Intake blockage, equipment downtime and access can interrupt supply. Any work on waterways and electrical equipment needs the appropriate professionals and approvals.
Permanent heating changes and fixed equipment additions require agreement; they are not tenant outage workarounds.
The occupant can document appliance demand, but the owner controls many permanent alterations. A change of tenant can also change the loads and make an old essential-circuit list inaccurate.
For a rental home, first confirm that a professional resource assessment supports the intended demand window. The extra 0.6 kWh control allowance consumes part of any assessed production; it does not establish that a waterway or permission exists.
Confirm who controls the electricity plan. Permission, responsibilities and any required consents must be resolved before a proposed fixed system is treated as a viable option. Portable preparedness may be more appropriate while that is unresolved.
All numbers below are hypothetical teaching inputs, not measured appliance specifications or product performance. The topic-specific extra load is separate from the base set; omit it if your real inventory already counts it. This worksheet does not include conversion overhead, protection design or a contingency allowance.
For a rental home, assume the selected base loads average 0.15 kW for 8 hours: 0.15 × 8 = 1.2 kWh. Separately, an additional hydro-monitoring and control load draws an assumed 25 W for 24 hours: (25 ÷ 1,000) × 24 = 0.6 kWh. The combined illustrative demand is 1.8 kWh.
The illustration is demand only; no flow, head or generation level is implied.
For arithmetic only, if the complete storage chain had a hypothetical 30% round-trip efficiency, delivering 1.8 kWh would require 1.8 ÷ 0.30 = 6 kWh of charging input. This is not a measured H2OME efficiency or recovery result. Ongoing demand during charging would add to the required input.
Base operating window: 8 hours. Extra illustrative load: An additional hydro-monitoring and control load, 25 W for 24 hours. Replace every input with a measured or professionally established value.
In Australia, check connection questions with your electricity retailer and distributor. Use electrical professionals holding the licence required in your state or territory, and ask the local council about relevant siting, building and water-use requirements. Energy Made Easy covers New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory; outside those jurisdictions, check the relevant state or territory consumer energy comparison resource. Compare your actual tariff and charging window, not an assumed national rate. This guide does not claim to know a particular state's approval process.
For life support equipment in Australia, keep life support registration current with the electricity retailer or distributor as applicable and confirm how the other party is notified. Follow your clinician and equipment provider's contingency plan. Registration is not a guarantee of continuous electricity, and H2OME cannot replace an independent medical contingency.
H2OME is in early development. Its 10 kW output figure is a design target, not a proven specification. There is no confirmed price, certification, commercial availability or guaranteed runtime in this guide.
Hydrogen is an energy store, not free energy. Grid input, wind and micro-hydro are the charging options considered here. Each requires its own supply assessment. Do not install hydrogen equipment, modify fixed wiring, bypass protection or improvise a connection from this guide.
These official resources provide energy, consumer and technical background. They are not endorsements of H2OME, proof of its performance or a substitute for site-specific professional advice.

No. The 1.8 kWh total is an illustrative demand worksheet, not a runtime result. Actual appliance measurements, usable storage output, starting demand, conversion overhead and reserve limits are needed. The 10 kW design target is not demonstrated output capability.
