Home / Australia guides / Charging sources / Matching generation to demand: Farm residence
Australia planning guidance for a specific property and load boundary. Avoid counting generation already committed to production. H2OME remains in early development.
A daily input total can conceal a timing mismatch. Draw separate timelines for wind or micro-hydro production, ordinary consumption and proposed charging. Surplus at one moment does not help a load at another moment unless a suitable store and control system can bridge the gap.
Avoid counting the same generation twice, first as direct supply and again as stored output. Conversion overhead and operating limits further reduce what can be delivered later. Use measured time-series data where available and test the proposal against low-input intervals.
Milking plant, large refrigeration, irrigation and workshop machinery need a separately engineered supply assessment.
The residence may sit beside machinery that exceeds a small household system. Domestic continuity and farm production must be separate scopes; sharing a driveway does not make a large shed a household load.
Plot a farm residence's operating tasks against measured input times in a written schedule. Allocating 0.75 kWh to the additional daytime task leaves that energy unavailable for charging, even if the daily production total looks sufficient.
Avoid counting generation already committed to production. H2OME has a 10 kW design target, not a demonstrated farm power rating. Large production loads may be outside its scope entirely; no multi-unit capability is assumed here.
All numbers below are hypothetical teaching inputs, not measured appliance specifications or product performance. The topic-specific extra load is separate from the base set; omit it if your real inventory already counts it. This worksheet does not include conversion overhead, protection design or a contingency allowance.
For a farm residence, assume the selected base loads average 0.32 kW for 18 hours: 0.32 × 18 = 5.76 kWh. Separately, an additional daytime task draws an assumed 250 W for 3 hours: (250 ÷ 1,000) × 3 = 0.75 kWh. The combined illustrative demand is 6.51 kWh.
Energy used directly by this task is no longer available for storage charging in the same interval.
For arithmetic only, if the complete storage chain had a hypothetical 30% round-trip efficiency, delivering 6.51 kWh would require 6.51 ÷ 0.30 = 21.7 kWh of charging input. This is not a measured H2OME efficiency or recovery result. Ongoing demand during charging would add to the required input.
Base operating window: 18 hours. Extra illustrative load: An additional daytime task, 250 W for 3 hours. Replace every input with a measured or professionally established value.
In Australia, check connection questions with your electricity retailer and distributor. Use electrical professionals holding the licence required in your state or territory, and ask the local council about relevant siting, building and water-use requirements. Energy Made Easy covers New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory; outside those jurisdictions, check the relevant state or territory consumer energy comparison resource. Compare your actual tariff and charging window, not an assumed national rate. This guide does not claim to know a particular state's approval process.
For life support equipment in Australia, keep life support registration current with the electricity retailer or distributor as applicable and confirm how the other party is notified. Follow your clinician and equipment provider's contingency plan. Registration is not a guarantee of continuous electricity, and H2OME cannot replace an independent medical contingency.
H2OME is in early development. Its 10 kW output figure is a design target, not a proven specification. There is no confirmed price, certification, commercial availability or guaranteed runtime in this guide.
Hydrogen is an energy store, not free energy. Grid input, wind and micro-hydro are the charging options considered here. Each requires its own supply assessment. Do not install hydrogen equipment, modify fixed wiring, bypass protection or improvise a connection from this guide.
These official resources provide energy, consumer and technical background. They are not endorsements of H2OME, proof of its performance or a substitute for site-specific professional advice.

No. The 6.51 kWh total is an illustrative demand worksheet, not a runtime result. Actual appliance measurements, usable storage output, starting demand, conversion overhead and reserve limits are needed. The 10 kW design target is not demonstrated output capability.
