Home / Australia guides / Essential household services / Drinking-water pumping: Lifestyle block
Australia planning guidance for a specific property and load boundary. Check water reserves before adding pump hours. H2OME remains in early development.
A pump-backed water supply needs both an electrical survey and a water reserve survey. Measure running input, controller demand and the typical time needed to replenish the pressure tank. A water tank can decouple the timing of pumping from the timing of household use, but only if its usable volume and water quality are known.
A working pump is not proof of safe drinking water. Filters, treatment controls, pressure switches and water-quality requirements may still interrupt supply. Have the relevant water and electrical professionals assess the complete chain, including what happens after a fault.
Irrigation, power tools and nonessential shed equipment should have separate operating windows.
A modest house can share a supply with a bore, shed, stock-water pump and powered gate. A meter total alone hides which remote circuit starts first and which load is necessary for people or animals.
For a lifestyle block, check whether the base list already contains water pumping before adding 24 minutes of extra pump operation. Tie each run to usable water replenished and the actual control arrangement; the 12-hour base window does not imply that the pump runs continuously.
Check water reserves before adding pump hours. A pump average does not describe its starting demand. Long cable runs and water-system controls also need professional review before a load is included.
All numbers below are hypothetical teaching inputs, not measured appliance specifications or product performance. The topic-specific extra load is separate from the base set; omit it if your real inventory already counts it. This worksheet does not include conversion overhead, protection design or a contingency allowance.
For a lifestyle block, assume the selected base loads average 0.33 kW for 12 hours: 0.33 × 12 = 3.96 kWh. Separately, an additional water pump, actual run time only draws an assumed 750 W for 0.4 hours: (750 ÷ 1,000) × 0.4 = 0.3 kWh. The combined illustrative demand is 4.26 kWh.
Twenty-four minutes of pumping is 0.4 hour; peak and starting demand still need separate checks.
For arithmetic only, if the complete storage chain had a hypothetical 30% round-trip efficiency, delivering 4.26 kWh would require 4.26 ÷ 0.30 = 14.2 kWh of charging input. This is not a measured H2OME efficiency or recovery result. Ongoing demand during charging would add to the required input.
Base operating window: 12 hours. Extra illustrative load: An additional water pump, actual run time only, 750 W for 0.4 hours. Replace every input with a measured or professionally established value.
In Australia, check connection questions with your electricity retailer and distributor. Use electrical professionals holding the licence required in your state or territory, and ask the local council about relevant siting, building and water-use requirements. Energy Made Easy covers New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory; outside those jurisdictions, check the relevant state or territory consumer energy comparison resource. Compare your actual tariff and charging window, not an assumed national rate. This guide does not claim to know a particular state's approval process.
For life support equipment in Australia, keep life support registration current with the electricity retailer or distributor as applicable and confirm how the other party is notified. Follow your clinician and equipment provider's contingency plan. Registration is not a guarantee of continuous electricity, and H2OME cannot replace an independent medical contingency.
H2OME is in early development. Its 10 kW output figure is a design target, not a proven specification. There is no confirmed price, certification, commercial availability or guaranteed runtime in this guide.
Hydrogen is an energy store, not free energy. Grid input, wind and micro-hydro are the charging options considered here. Each requires its own supply assessment. Do not install hydrogen equipment, modify fixed wiring, bypass protection or improvise a connection from this guide.
These official resources provide energy, consumer and technical background. They are not endorsements of H2OME, proof of its performance or a substitute for site-specific professional advice.

No. The 4.26 kWh total is an illustrative demand worksheet, not a runtime result. Actual appliance measurements, usable storage output, starting demand, conversion overhead and reserve limits are needed. The 10 kW design target is not demonstrated output capability.
